As many individuals and groups insist on the resignation of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Pantami, over his pro-Taliban links, the Presidency on Thursday said he will not be sacked.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement said Pantami’s ordeal in the hands of those calling for his sacking was not about his past utterances but about his current job as a minister.
The Presidency aligned itself with the submission of the embattled minister that he was young when he made those statements and that his position had since changed.

In videos from the 2000s, Pantami, who is a known Islamic scholar, had said that while he was against the extremist anti-western ideologies of Boko Haram, he supported some of what Al-Qaeda and Taliban had preached.
The statement read, “Today, there is an unfortunate fashion in public discourse that makes leaders in politics, religion, and civil society liable in the present for every statement they have ever made in the past – no matter how long ago, and even after they have later rejected them.
“This insidious phenomenon seeks to cancel the careers of others on the basis of a thing they have said, regardless of when they said it. The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami is, currently, subject to a ‘cancel campaign’ instigated by those who seek his removal. They do not really care what he may or may not have said some 20 years ago: that is merely the instrument they are using to attempt to ‘cancel’ him. But they will profit should he be stopped from making decisions that improve the lives of everyday Nigerians.
“The Minister has, rightly, apologised for what he said in the early 2000s. The views were absolutely unacceptable then, and would be equally unacceptable today, were he to repeat them. But he will not repeat them – for he has publicly and permanently condemned his earlier utterances as wrong.
“In the 2000s, the Minister was a man in his twenties; next year he will be 50. Time has passed, and people and their opinions – often rightly – change. But all discerning Nigerians know this manufactured dispute is nothing to do with the Minister’s prior words, but solely concern his actions in the present.
“This administration is committed to improving the lives of all Nigerians – and that includes ensuring they are not over-charged or under-protected for those services on which modern life depends.
“The Minister has been leading the charge against illegal data deductions and pricing; he has revolutionised the government’s virtual public engagement to respond to COVID-19 and save taxpayers’ money; he has established ICT start-up centres to boost youth entrepreneurship and create jobs; he has changed policy to ensure locally produced ICT content is used by ministries, starting with his own; and he has deregistered some 9.2 million SIMs – ending the ability for criminals and terrorists to flagrantly use mobile networks undetected. In two short years, Minister Pantami has driven the contribution of the ICT sector to the GDP to more than 18 percent, making it one of the top two playing a critical role in the emergence of the economy from the COVID 19-induced recession.
“In putting people first, the Minister and this administration have made enemies. There are those in the opposition who see success and want it halted by any means. And there is now well-reported information that alleges newspaper editors rebuffed an attempt to financially induce them to run a smear campaign against the minister by some ICT companies, many of which do indeed stand to lose financially through lower prices and greater consumer protections.
“The government is now investigating the veracity behind these claims of attempted inducement, and – should they be found to hold credence – police and judicial action must be expected. The Administration stands behind Minister Pantami and all Nigerian citizens to ensure they receive fair treatment, fair prices, and fair protection in ICT services.”
Leadership Of IPOB: Kanu Created More Followers and Less Leaders
IPOB, the Indigenous People of Biafra, an organization seeking the freedom for its people in South East and some parts of South South, Nigeria was founded in 2012 by a British-Nigerian, Nnamdi Kanu.
Kanu who began broadcasting on Radio Biafra from his small room in London, UK rose to prominence after his 2015 arrest by the Nigerian Government. His arrest that year was heavily criticized by many who believed such act triggered emotions among people of the regions.
In April 2017, Kanu was released from prison on bail and by then, he had amassed overwhelming number of followers and sympathizers emanating from the most remote villages to cities in the South East. The Supreme leader, as some of his followers willingly chose to address him, seemed to be in total control of the organization, he appoints who does what and dethrones who he finds unworthy.
After his release from prison, Kanu was obviously the big masquerade that everyone had eyes on. He had rallies in different cities across the states in the South East. Those rallies sincerely had crowds that were never seen by this generation of people in the region.

September, same 2017, Kanu’s home in Afaraukwu Ibeku, Abia state was invaded by the Nigerian Army, which according to IPOB left about 28 persons dead. The invasion which was suspected to be a counter force to the perceived threats imposed by Kanu’s gradual control of people of the region saw to disappearance of the IPOB leader. A year later, 2018, Kanu reappeared in Israel. “I’m in Israel,” he said on Sunday in a broadcast on their popular radio station – Radio Biafra.
IPOB Leader, Nnamdi Kanu reappeared in Israel – Okanga Trumpeters, 2018
Fast forward to 2021, Nnamdi Kanu was arrested, or rather abducted in Kenya in what some Senior Advocates of Nigeria(SANs) have described as ‘Kidnap’ becuase it violated repatriation processes known by the international laws.
IPOB Leadership Without Nnamdi Kanu;
Following Kanu’s repatriation to Nigeria, the IPOB leader had to leave the affairs of the group to be run by its members. According to information circulated by IPOB, the next in line to preside over the organization’s affairs is the DOS, Directorate Of State.
Just weeks after Kanu was remanded in custody of Department of State Services, DSS, cracks in its leadership structure were revealing itself.
Kanu, while in DSS had earlier instructed Simon Ekpa, a lawyer and Finnish citizen to immediately take up the role of broadcasting on their radio channel- Radio Biafra. The instruction saw some divisions among people who are considered even top leaders in IPOB. It was alleged that Simon Ekpa, who calls himself ‘Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s Disciple’ was not coming fort with criteria required of anyone who must broadcast from the station.
The allegation which was countered by many IPOB members and supporters online further created some hostilities among parties in the organization. An unconfirmed reports said that Simon Ekpa is not a registered member of the Indigenous People Of Biafra, IPOB. The question many are asking is why is someone who is not a member of IPOB be allowed to head one of the most sensitive departments of the organization.
The recently-cancelled ‘sit at home’ order by IPOB was yet another period which revealed the weakness in its leadership. It was seen that the only leader who the members have 100% loyalty to was Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the Supreme leader. It is however worrisome that if Kanu ceases to exist today, there will either be no more IPOB or there will be multiple factions in the same organization.
Lead Council to Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor has made series of publications expressing his displeasure with reactions of some members of the organization regarding the cancelled sit at home, suggesting members’ failure to adhere to instructions.
“Great leaders don’t just create crowds and followers, they rather create more leaders”―
It would be expected that an organization as big as IPOB should be stacked with brave and disciplined persons who can lead the organization excellently, without the feeling of “I must Be The Head”.
Many who occupy sensitive positions in IPOB are not leading, they are not disciplined and certainly, they are bribe-able. They are simply waiting to grasp the opportunity that may come should Biafra be actualized.

T.B Joshua’s Successor Revealed By SCOAN Elders
Following the demise of the founder of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, TB Joshua, the elders in council of the church have decided to select a successor.
Okanga Trumpeters gathered that SCOAN elders who had a crucial meeting stated that the church had no secession plan but someone has to carry the mantle of leading the church.
“Someone must take charge immediately and give spiritual direction on the mode of service continuity. So much spiritual and financial efforts went into building SCOAN and it cannot just waste away,’’ a top aide said.
“None of the pastors were trained to succeed him. I would have known if any exists. For now, the wife has taken charge.’’
The elders of SCOAN decided that since nobody was trained by the late prophet to succeed him, that his wife, Evelyn will take over as the leader of the mega church.
Evelyn, the wife of late TB Joshua, and also a senior pastor in SCOAN, confirmed the funeral arrangements when she received Lagos state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

A family sources disclosed that the late televangelist, who died on June 5, will be buried at his church in Ikotun, Lagos state, and will be succeeded by his wife Evelyn as SCOAN leader.
Initially, reports indicated the pastor was to be buried in his hometown of Arigidi-Akoko, Ondo state, as demanded by the traditional ruler of the town.
However, it is reported that the pastor’s family and church elders intervened and decided the pastor will be buried in Lagos on July 11.
“Since they said the reason was spiritual, the family agreed with them,” a church source said
Stop Acting Like Pharaoh, Let Biafra And Oduduwa Go Now – Pastor Tells Buhari
Senior Pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming Of Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to listen to the cries of Nigerians and allow them to go in peace.
Giwa, in a statement to DAILY POST on Saturday, specifically warned president Buhari to stop acting like the biblical King Pharaoh who refused to let the Israelites go until God dealt with him.
According to the cleric, keeping Nigerians together by force and continue to mistreat them will lead to failure within a short period of time.
On Oduduwa Republic’s agitation, Giwa urged Yoruba leaders to swing into action and draft out a solid constitution for the region.
“Very quickly, the leaders of Yoruba should come together and give us a solid constitution that will make Oduduwa Republic one of the best nations in the world.
“In doing this, religious leaders must be carried along too. This is what God has designed and there is no man that can change it.
“President Buhari should listen to the cries of Nigerians and allow them to go in peace. You can’t continue to keep the people together while mistreating them.
“Since 2015, you have been watching your people killing, raping and kidnapping other ethnic groups but failed woefully to control them.
“What kind of a president are you when you cannot provide adequate security and jobs for Nigerians? Under your watch, over forty percent of people continue to live in poverty.
“Under your leadership, a bag of Cement is being sold for N3,500. What happens to rice, beans and Gari?
“How much is a litre of petrol? Do you know how many people who are dying of hunger on a daily basis in Nigeria?
“I am sure no one would have survived this if Buhari’s predecessors had ruled Nigeria the same way the All Progressives Congress is ruling.
“President Buhari has led Nigeria astray, and it’s high time he allowed people to make their decisions. A sane person would have quickly called for a referendum to let people make their best choices and decisions.
“President Buhari should stop acting like king Pharaoh; listen to the cries of the oppressed and free Nigerians from poverty, economic hardship and insecurity.
“Twitter has left Nigeria for Ghana, Germany is also backing the establishment of African Centre for Global Health and Pandemic Prevention in Ghana. So, tell me what is left in Nigeria?
“It’s a signal that Nigeria doesn’t exist anymore. Bad governance and insecurity have discouraged foreign investors to establish their businesses in Nigeria.”
