Governor Uzodinma Reveals Those Behind Attacks In Nigeria

overnor Hope Uzodinma has made some revelations with regard to security challenges bedevilling Nigeria. The governor claimed that many former officers holders in the country have chosen to stay aloof from the issue of rampant attacks by gunmen.

Uzodinma on Tuesday, June 8, also said the bigwigs of other political parties are encouraging insecurity and tension. In his opinion, the Imo governor who spoke with State House correspondents after meeting with President Buhari said such personalities are chieftains of opposition parties and other disgruntled elements, The Nation reports.

Stating that all is not well in Nigeria, Uzodinma also vowed that his government must punish those who derive pleasure in destroying public properties.  As he admitted that the administration alone cannot deal with the issue of insecurity, the governor called on stakeholders from political, religious, and traditional circles to get involved in the process of addressing the problem.

The governor also noted that former Nigerian office holders who remain silent in the midst of the state’s ordeals have a lot of questions to answer, adding that things would have been a lot better if they have been active in offering workable suggestions.

Earlier, Governor Uzodinma had claimed that aggrieved politicians sponsored the recent attack on security facilities in the state. He made the allegation on Wednesday, April 7. Speaking in the state, the governor blamed the attack on aggrieved politicians who wanted to destabilise his government and that of President Buhari.

“What is important for Nigerians to know is the plot by a group of aggrieved politicians to destabilise the government of APC (All Progressives Congress). I have done some thorough investigation and I have some credible lead as to those who are sponsoring these activities of these hoodlums”, he said.

How Triger-Happy Police Officer Killed 5 In Enugu State

he police command in Enugu has confirmed five persons dead in Golf Estate after a police officer attached to a company went berserk and attacked a compound.

The police also disclosed that four persons were seriously wounded due to the attack that took place on Sunday at about 9:30 a.m. in Golf Estate GRA.

Commissioner of Police Mohammed Aliyu confirmed the incident in a statement issued on his behalf by the command’s spokesman, ASP Daniel Ndukwe.

Mr Aliyu explained that the police officer had been arrested and taken into custody pending the conclusion of an investigation.

“The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Aliyu, has ordered the deputy commissioner of police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to carry out a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident.

“The incident involved a police inspector attached to the Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 9, Umuahia, Abia and said to be on duty at a lottery company located within the Golf Estate.

“The commissioner, who made the order after visiting the hospital where four of the persons said to have sustained gunshot injuries are receiving treatment.

“Five others, whose injuries were critical, have been confirmed dead by doctors on duty and deposited in the mortuary for autopsy,’’ the police statement said.

The police commissioner also directed the swift conclusion of the investigation of the incident to aid further necessary actions by the police authorities.

Meanwhile, Mr Aliyu sympathised with the victims’ families and urged them to remain calm and cooperate with the police in the ongoing investigation.

He called on witnesses at the scene of the incident to volunteer useful information that would aid the thorough and swift conclusion of the investigation.

Kebbi abduction: One student dead, 5 others, 2 teachers rescued

ive of the abducted students and two teachers of the Federal Government College in Birnin-Yauri, Kebbi State have been rescued.

Their rescue was disclosed by the Nigerian Army on Friday.

The army also confirmed that during a gun duel that ensued, an exhausted student gave up the ghost.

DAILY POST had reported that armed men suspected to be bandits had abducted the students and teachers on Thursday.

The bandits were said to have killed a police officer before whisking the four staff and unspecified number of students to an unknown destination.

 

 

One of the students abducted from the school was shot dead during a gun duel between soldiers and the abductors.

The Deputy Force Commander of the Joint Task Force in the North-West Zone, Air Commodore Abubakar AbdulKadir, confirmed the incident.

A statement issued and signed by the Army Public Relations Officer, Onyema Nwachukwu, said the “Nigerian Army troops operating under the auspices of Operation Hadarin Daji who have been on a hot pursuit of kidnappers and bandits following an unfortunate abduction incident in Federal Government College, Birnin Yawuri yesterday 17 June 2021 have so far, rescued two teachers and five students after a fierce exchange of fire with the criminals.”

The statement disclosed further that an initial encounter with the abductors in the early hours of Friday led to the rescue as the kidnappers who had split into two groups fled.

The army said while one group held the abducted children captive, the second group continued to move with the rustled cattle.

It said the Land troops in conjunction with elements of the Nigerian Air Force, who provided close air support during the rescue mission intercepted the two groups at about 2.30 am and engaged them in a fire fight leading to the successful rescue of the teachers and students.

It revealed that, “The troops also recovered 800 cattle rustled by the bandits.“The gallant troops are still on the heels of the kidnappers in order to rescue the remaining abductees still in captivity.
Sadly, a casualty was recorded during the exchange. A female student was found to have given up the ghost as a result of exhaustion. The rescued teachers and students will be handed over to the Kebbi State Government.

“The Nigerian Army appreciates the cooperation so far from good spirited citizens and wish to solicit for more. The Chief of Army Staff Maj Gen Faruk Yahaya has directed the Commander to spare no effort until all the abducted persons are safely rescued and reunited with their loved ones,” the statement said.

Bandits Storm Kebbi School, Abduct Students – Police Confirm Report

he Police Command in Kebbi State has confirmed the abduction of some students of Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri and the killing of a policeman during the attack.

OKANGA TRUMPETERS had reported that armed bandits on Thursday invaded the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, Kebbis State, and abducted a yet to be specified number of female students.

In his confirmation of the incident, Mr Adeleke Adeyinka-Bode, the Commissioner of Police in the state, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the number of students abducted is not known yet.

“The truth is that the attack took place and five teachers have been taken away, four male and one female, but the number of students abducted is not known yet.

“The attack took place around 12pm and during the crossfire between police and the bandits, some students were injured and one police officer was also injured and another was killed. These are the facts I can give to you,” he said.

The police commissioner said the school principal who should provide details of the number of students abducted was still in shock.

“The Principal is not in the best state of mind as I am speaking to you now, because parents have trooped into the school searching for their children.

“So the Principal cannot make a proper headcount call,” he added
